Narwain's "Dr. JJ" Helps His Patients Struggle With Their Demons

Most psychologists help their patients struggle with their inner demons. In Narwain Publishing's new comic book "Dr. JJ", the patients don't have inner demons. They ARE demons!

Dr. JJ is a successful Manhattan psychologist. He's married, has two beautiful children and is living the good life provided by his flourishing practice. Things take a turn to the dark side when he successfully treats a patient suffering from depression…a patient who turns out to be a demon. Word of mouth spreads through the underworld and soon all manner of evil entities are scheduling appointments with the doctor.

"I wanted to take the irony of sophisticated New Yorkers and blend that with pure horror," says series writer Philip Osbourne, "just as I blended genres with my previous book, 'Jenna'. Hopefully 'Dr. JJ' will appeal to people who enjoy urbane fare like 'Sex and the City' as well as darker themes."

Joining Osbourne on the book are artist Wellington Dias ("C.S.I."), inker Joe Rubinstein ("Formerly Known as the Justice League") and colorist Wayne Robinson ("Wolverine").

The 32-page, full-color one-shot ships in February with a cover price of $3.99. It can be found in the current Diamond Previews catalog on page 302. "Dr. JJ" is suggested for mature readers.

MegaCon November Newsletter

The countdown to MegaCon ’06 continues. With less than three months until the doors open, MegaCon ’06 just continues to add great guests to its already impressive roster and the list of incredible planned events just keeps getting better.

This year’s guest list includes many names that have never attended MegaCon before as well as some of our returning friends. Whether you’re a fan of Modern, Golden Age or Silver Age comics, you’ll find one of your favorite creators at this year’s show. Start digging through your collection for comics to have autographed as these are the latest comic book guests to sign up:

• Nick Cardy (Aquaman, Teen Titans, Batlash)
• Jim Cheung (Young Avengers, Scion)
• Adam Hughes (Wonder Woman, Tomb Raider, Catwoman)
• Jonathan and Joshua Luna (Ultra, Girls)
• Bob McLeod (X-Men, Spider-Man)
• Tim Townsend (Uncanny X-Men, New X-Men)
• George Tuska (Iron Man)

And we are very pleased to have one of the greats of comics’ history joining us for the first time: Al Feldstein. Al Feldstein was the editor, writer and an artist for most of the E.C. Comics line from 1949 to 1956. He created "Tales from the Crypt" and other Golden Age E.C. titles, writing almost all of the stories and doing some story artwork, but focusing mainly on the covers. Adaptations of his stories were featured on TV in HBO's "Tales from the Crypt."

After E.C. Comics, Al Feldstein went on to become the editor of “MAD Magazine” from 1956 to 1984 where he adopted and christened Alfred E. Neuman as its trademark/logo and turned the original cult-magazine into an American Icon.

Be sure to come by and thank him for helping make comics what they are today.

Anime Costume Contest!
At this year’s convention, MegaCon plays host to the 7th Annual Anime Costume Contest presented by Anime Sushi. As has become a tradition at each year’s convention, the costume contest continues to grow by leaps and bounds.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, February 25, 2006. The contest is in two parts: prejudging and stage presentation. In order to participate, you must be a paid convention attendee and fill out a registration form. You can enter either as an individual or a group. Registration forms will be available in person all day Friday, February 24 and the morning of Saturday, February 25. Or you can pre-register online from January 15, 2006 through February 15. Those that pre-register online will allowed in line for prejudging early so we recommend you pre-register online. Prejudging will be held in Room 222 B and will begin at 10:45 AM for those pre-registered and at 11:00 AM for those registering at the convention. The absolute cut off for entries is 11:30 AM. At pre-judging you must be signed up, already received your entry number, be in full costume and come prepared with source material for the judges. If you have any questions, you can come get answers at Room 222 B at 10:30 AM.

The stage presentations will then be held at 4:30 PM in Room 224 so you must be in the hall no later than 4:15 PM for line up. All contestants will be allowed to walk on stage as there will be no pre-eliminations.

Awards will be based on Technical Merit, Creativity, Accuracy, Originality and Quality, not on how much you paid for your costume. No points will be given for cosplaying during the actual contest. We recommend that if you don't have a good skit worked up, it’s best for you to just pose for pictures.

If you have a favorite anime character and you wish to participate, be sure to follow these regulations.

1. Your character MUST be ANIME. Japanese animated series/movies and J-Pop/rock and video game characters (Japanese based) will only be allowed. NO American superheroes, cartoon characters, etc.
2. Time limit on stage is ONE (1) minute.
3. You don't have to do a skit. All judging will be done ahead of the stage presentations. Just simply pose for pictures and smile for the camera.
4. Audio CDs only. NO mp3s. There will be no cueing for the music. Your CD starts when you enter the stage. Preset any pauses into your CD if it's important to you.
5. One entry per person/costume. Group OR individual.
6. NO COMMISSIONED COSTUMES. This means the costume you’re wearing must have been created by YOU. You could have had help in creating it, but you must have participated.
7. Prejudging and Stage presentation are a must to qualify for an award.
8. Source Material. This is the most important part of Prejudging. Be sure to bring a photo or other source material of your character so the judges know who you’re supposed to be.
9. Weapons/Props should be left at home. If it looks real, it could get you in trouble. Be sure to check out MegaCon’s formal policy which can be found here: http://www.megaconvention.com/weapons.asp.
10. No messes. No silly string, no confetti, no water, NO MESS.
11. No swinging of any props and No jumping off stage. If you get hurt, you spoil things for everyone.
12. No obscene costumes or skits. No nudity, no t-backs, etc. This is a family show.
13. Kids aged 0-13 will be judged separate.

To see photos from last year’s contest and to read the official detailed rules, go here: http://www.megaconvention.com/anime.asp. Good luck!

Narwain's Launch Titles are "On The Way"

Fans who were looking forward to Narwain Publishing's November launch titles: "Free Fall", "Jenna" "Brian Yuzna's Horrorama", "Rash", "Narwain Preview", "The Power and the Glory" and "Wall After Wall" went home from their Comics Shops empty-handed and disappointed last week.

Due to unforeseen logistical problems the books, which shipped from the publisher in mid-November did not make their way into comic shops as planned.

"Narwain would like apologize to fans and retailers for the delay with our launch titles," said publisher Mauro Di Pede. "We are very committed to shipping our books on time, but as a new company not based in the U.S. we're still learning about the distribution channels.

"We want to assure readers and retailers that the launch titles are on the way and will be in shops soon. We're committed to making sure that this will not occur with future shipments."

Diamond Comics Distributors has confirmed that they have received the titles and will ship them as soon as possible. The books may arrive in shops as early as next Wednesday, December 7th.

Soft, Cuddly, and ready to kill

What happens when your Teddy Bears grow up and become forgotten? They have come back from the dead and now they want bloody revenge.

Quite simply the coolest bear I have seen in such a long time. Each with there own personal back story and attitude.

Rita Mortis with her bloody baseball bat

Edwin Morose with his broken heart

Abnormal Cyrus with a spare eyeball

Redmond gore with a bloody axe (personal favorite)
Hester Golem with his chest full of bugs

These teddies are simply put must haves. You can pick them up at any Hot Topic or comic store. To see the details in hand shows how much applehead factory, the creators, care about this product. Giving each there back story from date of death to description of there life then and now is a nice touch. What really sold me was that the background also gives cause of death, hobbies, and even favorite color.
Do yourself the favor of picking up these bears. And then head over to the Teddy Scares so you can join the fan club. I did I hope you do too.

PAUL JENKINS IS IN WITH THE HOUSE OF IDEAS! AWARD-WINNING WRITER GOES EXCLUSIVE WITH MARVEL COMICS!

“I grew up as a writer at Marvel... we've had a lot of mutual success,” says comic book scribe Paul Jenkins. “I'm at a time in my life and career when it makes sense to go exclusive. My wife and I are expecting our first child, I just signed the deal to produce my first film and things are looking interesting for my production company, Good Cop Bad Cop.”
“In addition, I've been working on video games a lot... it was time to bring all of the comic work into one place, for the sake of my sanity.” Jenkins pauses and smiles, “This has been a long time coming. Let's not kid ourselves: I've pretty much been exclusive with Marvel for the last five or six years, with all due respect to the Distinguished Competition.”

Those last five to six years have been well-packed for the Welsh-born writer. The “mutual successes” have included a long run on SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN, an Eisner Award-winning hitch on INHUMANS, and also penning the Marvel blockbusters WOLVERINE: ORIGIN and WOLVERINE: THE END. Jenkins is currently helming THE SENTRY and the right-smack-dab-in-the mutant-middle-of-things book GENERATION M - on sale today!.

“GENERATION M is probably the most fun I have had on a book in many years -- (artist)Ramon Bachs is just incredible. He's going to be a major star,” notes Jenkins.

Jenkins first gained writing experience in his native United Kingdom while working on an English degree. After moving to the US and hooking up with TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, he began to edit the duo’s books and even negotiate their licensing deals.
The writer may have little precious time to enjoy his exclusivity at the House of Ideas. One of his first new Marvel projects is to take over the fan-favorite title THE PULSE, replacing popular creator Brian Michael Bendis. If that alone wasn’t enough, Jenkins will also oversee a “changing of the guard” on THE PULSE: well-loved central character Jessica Jones will be leaving the book, and GENERATION M’s own Sally will step in to fill the vacuum. Thus THE PULSE’s ties to the Marvel Universe at large and the world of the mutants become even stronger.

“I would trust Paul Jenkins with any Marvel character,” declares Editor-In-Chief Joe Quesada. “Let me repeat that a bit louder: any Marvel character! Paul’s all about the character...we love razz-matazz as much as any major comics company but at the end of the day, Marvel’s characters are what stand true and proud. That’s why Paul’s here. That’s why we brought him onboard. That, and he’s a good-lookin’ son-of-a-gun, t’boot!”

Jenkins doesn’t intend to rest on his laurels and get by on looks alone at Marvel.

“All I can say is that I am extremely excited. I'm proud of what I've done so far but I'm certain that my future work will be even better.”

All the news of Paul’s ongoing adventures with Marvel can be found, where else? At Marvel.com, True Believers.

SFX READER AWARD GOES TO TITAN BOOKS’ SERENITY COMPANION

Christmas came early to the employees of Titan Books with the news that their fan-favourite title Serenity: The Official Visual Companion scooped this year’s SFX Reader Award for Best Non-Fiction! The title topped other popular licensed picks such as Doctor Who: Monsters and Villains, Doctor Who: Back to the Vortex, and The Lost Chronicles, as well as an unlicensed Serenity tie-in.

The SFX Reader Awards 2005 are announced in the Christmas issue of SFX, currently available on newsstands.

Eagerly-anticipated by fans prior to its release date thanks to some well-timed buzz on Serenity and Joss Whedon websites and an exclusive photo extract that ran in the Night and Day supplement to the Daily Mail, Serenity: The Official Visual Companion (Titan Books; $19.95/£16.99; ISBN: 1-84576-082-4) has sold more than 30,000 copies. Titan are pleased to announce that the book will shortly be going back to press for a record fourth time, and sales show no sign of slowing down as the Christmas season approaches.

Released in September 2005 in both the US and UK, the companion features the full Serenity shooting script, production art and photographs, as well as a preface by Joss Whedon and an in-depth interview with him regarding the making of the film.

Already boasting a formidable reputation as the UK’s leading graphic novel publisher, Titan Books has been steadily carving out a solid niche in the lucrative film genre, publishing companions to many of 2005’s biggest performers, including Batman Begins, Fantastic Four, and Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-rabbit.

FEAR AGENT #2 MISPRINTED, GOING BACK TO PRESS

How about a pocketful of Ash for the New Year!

On January 3rd, 2006, Anchor Bay Entertainment – an IDT Entertainment Company – will release Sam Raimi’s classic horror-laugh fest "Evil Dead 2" on the Universal Media Disc (UMD) format for the PlayStation Portable player.

Starring Bruce (“Don’t Call Me Ash”) Campbell and directed by Sam (“Spider-Man”) Raimi, "Evil Dead 2" helped re-define the modern movie sequel, taking the chilling premise of the first Evil Dead and adding a healthy dose of comedy to the terrifying proceedings, resulting in one of the most unique – and hysterical -- follow-ups in the history of horror films.

6 Arms for the 6th Sellout: Amazing Spider-Man #526 Sells Out,

The day before it even hits shelves, Amazing Spider-Man #526 has sold out at Diamond despite a significant overprinting. To commemorate the sixth consecutive Spider-Man: The Other sellout, Marvel is going back to press immediately with a new second printing variant cover by Mike Wieringo featuring the Six-Armed Spider-Man from Amazing Spider-Man #100-102.

The response to Spider-Man’s all-out battle with Morlun in Amazing Spider-Man #526 was been one of shock and amazement. David Wallace of SilverBulletComicBooks.com says, “It’s a great slugfest of an issue which makes me incredibly eager to get my hands on the next issue.”

ComicFanatic.com gave Amazing Spider-Man #526 an A+ and said, “If you consider yourself to be a Spider-Man fan, you MUST NOT miss this issue.”

The response to these second printing variant covers has been tremendous and it wouldn’t be possible without the unqualified success the fans have made Spider-Man: The Other thus far.

Be sure to pick up Act Three of Spider-Man: The Other written by J. Michael Straczynski in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #3, Marvel Knights Spider-Man #21, and Amazing Spider-Man #527 as Spider-Man finds himself on the precipice of death with only one choice: evolve or die.

FALL IN LOVE WITH ALIAS THIS FEBRUARY

This February, St. Valentine brings the love from Alias Comics, with titles such as THE LEGEND OF ISIS, and LULLABY, as well as a new chance for readers to pick up past favorites, like TED NOODLEMAN: BICYCLE DELIVERY BOY!

Also lined up from Alias this February – an all-new one-shot comic, TEMPEST, to benefit the victims of this past summer’s Hurricane Katrina.

By writer Ben Avery and an all-star cast of artists, TEMPEST is the story of a normal man who writes stories of heroics and tragedy. But now, surrounded by news of tragedy and disaster, confronted with his own limitations, and facing the lifting veil of innocence, he is forced to ask some difficult questions. TEMPEST is a story of hope in the face of pain; beauty in the face of evil; strength in the face of solitary weakness.

Joining Avery on this project are such artists as Randy Green (WITCHBLADE), Javier Saltares (WOLVERINE), Sherwin Schwartzrock (ARMOR QUEST), Sergio Cariello (BATMAN), Mike Worley, Tom Bancroft (OPPOSITE FORCES), Phil Hester (GREEN ARROW), Gary Martin (THE MOTH), and many more!

Proceeds from the sale of TEMPEST will be donated to the Disaster Relief efforts of the Salvation Army.

Also this month, TED NOODLEMAN rides again, as Alias Comics offers readers a second chance to pick up this fan-acclaimed trade paperback by its rising star creators, Jim Keplinger (SHADOWHAWK) and Ryan Ottley (INVINCIBLE)!

TED NOODLEMAN is a below-average, delusional boy who spends his days delivering packages on his bicycle … but in his own mind he’s so much more! Superhero, Cowboy, Knight … it’s all in a days work for this delivery boy!

“Ted Noodleman is a project Ryan [Ottley] and I let loose and held nothing back from. Ted was designed to explore and exploit genres and form, and that's exactly what he did in his many funny, off-beat, unseemly and usually undignified adventures,” said writer Jim Keplinger. “Ted Noodleman is a part of our souls... which probably doesn't bode well for the hereafter.”

All of these great comics and many more will hit shops everywhere this February, courtesy of Alias Comics!

“It’s been a fun book for me, and I really do have mixed feelings about having to leave,” said Ottney. “On one hand, I’ve just got too much to do these days and I had to drop something before I dropped it ALL. Plus, it’s just time to give someone else a shot at her. But on the other hand, it’s been hard to preview some of the stories and art from later issues that I’m not a part of. I feel like I’m sending my little girl out into the world without me. But the incoming creative team is doing a great job, and I couldn’t choose any more capable hands to leave her in.”

ROBERT JORDAN, MIKE S. MILLER LAUNCH NEW LITHOGRAPH SERIES AND WEBSITE

Robert Jordan, #1 New York Times best selling author, and one of the most widely regarded fantasy writers of all time strikes a deal with comic book and fantasy artist Mike S. Miller to produce a line of lithographs based off of his best-selling beloved fantasy series, 'The Wheel of Time'.

"I am very much looking forward to working on this project with Mike Miller, a truly spectacular artist.", Jordan proclaimed. Jordan and Miller have worked together before on the comic adaptation of 'New Spring' for Red Eagle Entertainment and Dabel Brothers Production.

"I couldn't be more excited to be the guy that gets to play in Mr. Jordan's sandbox," said Miller, "It's such a rich and vivid world, with imagery that just begs to be brought to life through art." And that's exactly what Miller plans to do. With his first offering, Miller asked 'Wheel of Time' fans what was their favorite scene from the first Wheel of Time book, 'The Eye of the World'. "It was overwhelming, the fans wanted to see the last battle of the Manetheren, as was described by Moiraine Damodred early in the novel. Easy for me to agree with, it was my favorite as well..." Miller added. It was from Moiraine's description that the lithograph got it's title, 'Sing of Manetheren'.

The timing couldn't be better. As Jordan criss-crosses the country on his new-release tour for his 11th book in the popular Wheel of Time series, 'Knife of Dreams', it seems promotion and awareness of the series is at a fever pitch. "It's a great time to put the first Litho out there," continued Miller, "hopefully it will be 1/1,000th as well received as Mr. Jordan's work. He has millions of loyal fans that are hard to please, but since it's his vision first and foremost, just knowing that I've gotten his approval means everything to me."

In addition to the effort Miller has put into his art, he has also been hard at work with his webmaster, Martin Oakley of Bloodstained productions, to have an online venue through which he can promote and sell this among other lithographs that he has produced.

WWW.FIREBRANDFANTASYART.COM officially launches Thursday, December 1st with a special one-time-offer of 10% off all lithographs, including 'Sing of Manetheren' and free shipping for orders made on or before December 10th.

Other lithographs available from www.firebrandfantasyart.com feature artwork from George R. R. Martin's NYTimes best selling 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series; Among other original artwork from Miller's long standing comic book career

Living Laser! Spymaster! The Ghost! All Return in Iron Man: Inevitable

Inevitably, Iron Man had to expect retaliation from his oldest enemies after his secret identity went public and then was subsequently restored. Now, Shell-Head’s rogues are more dangerous than ever and they’re looking to make Tony Stark pay for their many defeats at the hands of Iron Man in Iron Man: The Inevitable #1.

“Part of what this series is about is that basic approach to the character and reintegrating some of what I always loved about Iron Man - primarily his Rogues Gallery,” says writer Joe Casey. “Iron Man’s got some great villains and we're bringing back not one, not two, but three of Iron Man's classic foes in this thing, retooled, and updated for the new century.”

Featuring the return of such fan-favorite Iron Man villains like Living Laser, The Ghost, and Spymaster, Iron Man: The Inevitable is reintroducing some of the Armored Avenger’s deadliest opponents from the past, but with a whole new edge.

Iron Man: The Inevitable also deals with the reaction of Iron Man’s rogues to his secret identity going public and how they refuse to believe that it’s not Tony Stark in the armor. And to complicate matters, there is a mini-arms race concerning the Living Laser as Tony tries to cure his old sparring partner while the Spymaster wants him as his own perfect weapon.

It has all the makings of a classic revenge story as Iron Man’s past comes back to haunt him in the form of three deadly villains in Iron Man: The Inevitable.
