BEST-SELLING ACTION THRILLER NOVELIST DAVID MORRELL TO PEN NEW STORYLINE FOR MARVEL'S CAPTAIN AMERICA

NEW YORK - Considered by many to be the father of the modern action novel, award-winning author David Morrell will be the creative mastermind behind a new Captain America project, slated for next year.
With a complex body of work that traverses the Horror, Espionage and Thriller genres, Morrell is a giant in the literary world. He is the author of First Blood, the award-winning novel in which Rambo was created. He has written numerous best-selling thrillers, including The Brotherhood of the Rose (the basis for a highly rated NBC mini-series), The Fifth Profession, Extreme Denial and Assumed Identity. Most recently, he wrote the dark suspense-thriller Creepers (CDS Books, September 2005). Two of his novellas received Stoker awards from the Horror Writers Association.

In his first comic book writing effort, Morrell will bring his action writing talent to Captain America, in the story of a young Marine, Corporal James Newman, who is on his tour of duty in Afghanistan. In the midst of a brutal fire fight with enemy forces, Captain America leads him out of the battle while helping him rescue his wounded comrades who are trapped by enemy fire. When the smoke clears, Newman is unsure if Captain America was really there, or a hallucination in the stress of battle.

"As the creator of Rambo, Morrell is known for heroes who've been trained to handle action and danger. He is a master of weaving action into a thought-provoking plot with more than a few twists, and I am eager to see the thrills he has in store for the newest installments of Captain America," said Joe Quesada, Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics.

"I want the characters to feel real," says David Morrell. "In particular I want the reader to believe in Captain America. Also, I want to explore the major theme of what it means to be a hero in this troubled modern world. I hope the story is deeply moving as well as exciting."

MARVEL TAPS AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR AND NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER ERIC JEROME DICKEY TO PEN SIX-ISSUE LIMITED SERIES OF STORM

New Series Reveals the Epic Romance of X-Men Favorite Storm and Black Panther Series to Launch in February 2006, Coinciding With Black History Month.

NEW YORK - Eric Jerome Dickey, critically acclaimed author of New York Times bestsellers Thieves' Paradise, The Other Woman, and Genevieve, has signed on to create a spectacular, six-issue limited series of Storm, spotlighting the ever-popular X-Men heroine. The first highly anticipated issue is scheduled to debut in February 2006, coinciding with Black History Month.

Dickey's Storm story arc will present an epic romance, revealing the untold love story of the world's two most popular African American Super Heroes, Ororo (also known as Storm of the X-Men) and T'Challa (a.k.a. The Black Panther), the world's first African American Super Hero. Marking Dickey's first comic book writing effort, the captivating series blends romance and adventure against the backdrop of Africa's cruel plains. Emerging star David Yardin (Black Panther, District X) will illustrate the books.

"I never would have imagined that I'd get an opportunity to step into the Marvel Universe and work on Storm," says Dickey. "She is such a remarkable character. And being allowed to incorporate T'Challa, the future Black Panther in the same series...wake me up because I have to be dreaming."
The six-issue series follows how the famed African Prince T'Challa crosses paths with Ororo, an orphaned street urchin who only survives by sheer wit as her mutant powers are still in their infancy. As the story and romance unfold, the duo come together to fight against a mutual foe who seeks to put them in a cage and exploit them toward wicked ends.

"This is a truly groundbreaking storyline that will draw in readers from all cultural backgrounds," said Joe Quesada, Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics. "Eric's unique vision for this series will thrill traditional comic fans of Storm and The Black Panther, as well as appeal to a whole new audience drawn towards Eric's remarkable storytelling ability."

Dickey's novels Liar's Game, Between Lovers, Thieves' Paradise, The Other Woman, Naughty or Nice, Drive Me Crazy, and Genevieve have all earned him the success of a spot on The New York Times bestseller list. Liar's Game, Thieves' Paradise, The Other Woman, Naughty or Nice, and Drive Me Crazy have also given Dickey the added distinction of being nominated for a NAACP Image Award in the category of Outstanding Fiction in 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004. His 12th novel, Chasing Destiny, will be released in May 2006.

Tripping the Rift: Season One

Tripping the Rift is part of SciFi's Wednesday, paired up with Ghost Hunters. A computer animated show featuring the voice talent of Stephen Root, John Melendez, and Gina Gershon, it has received its fair share of blame for corrupting the youth of society. Of course, it's also a critical hit, scoring high among internet critics. We received the box set for Season One from Anchor Bay yesterday.

Video:
The quality is top notch, but that's to be expected. While nothing technically difficult is done, what you have here is an extremely confident job from Anchor Bay. All the episodes are blemish free, almost as if the DVD was created directly from the rendering computers used by Cinegroupe.

Audio:
The set sports a 2.1 Dolby Digital audio track which sounds better than it did when it was aired. While there is no rear audio, the front speakers give enough dimension to the image that it sounds as if you're on the bridge of the Jupiter 42. However, for a box that claims uncensored on the front cover, it would've been nice to remove the bleeping.

Extras:
Here is where things go a little south. The only real extras are on the third disk and they're galleries of the characters and random pieces of artwork. However, when put into a DVD drive there are teleplays of all 13 episodes included, a must for any would-be television writer. An interview or two with a couple of the actors, or even the creators would've been welcome. Also, Tripping the Rift first came to my attention nearly four years ago as a six minute downloadable clip. The inclusion of the clip would've been a nice touch.

Final Thoughts:
For those who didn't catch SciFi's original run or fans of the show, I can easily recommend this set. And if you shop around, you can find it for less than $15, which is a hell of a deal for anyone. However, the dearth of extras really kills the longetivity of the set. Overall, it's an average set, but with a little effort it could've been something to truly treasure.

The video :
The video was of excellent quality. There was no fuzz no blurry moments. In the 3d segments. They actually worked. In once scene in particular where Sally is dancing with officer Don (played by Wayne Knight) There are feathers flying around Sally. The 3d actually made it feel as if the feathers where in my own room.

The audio:
The Audio was very consistent. When it came to the extras however, some of the bloopers where quieter then others. Other then that it was great.

Extras:
John Lithgow Interview
Season two Highlights
Season Two Bloopers

Final Thoughts

I remember watching this show way back when. I loved it then, and I love it now. One of the things I wish the set contained was a commentary track on the 3d episode to see where they received there inspiration on the dream sequences. The extras where great. Over all I recomend this Dvd set I give it
