Mega Con 2006 After Thoughts

Hey guys I am officially back. I got back in Sunday night and been at work since. So with today being my day off its time to do the Mega Con Con Report.

So every year for the last 5 years I have been going up to Orlando to attend the festivities that is Mega Con. This year has had to have been the greatest one to date.

The 3 day event started with a bang. After waiting in line for hours they opened the doors at 12 noon and let the masses enter. The music was pumping there was energy in the air. Mega Con has started.

The first day I cruised the floor checking out the items that people are selling. Hearing what the word on the street is. This year the big thing was a toss up between the anime Fullmetal Alchemist and Naruto.

I had the opportunity to meet some great artists. One of which isTerribly Odd

. This guy hands down had these coolest prints and t-shirts at the show. I myself picked up the bear t-shirt that is featured on his myspace page. You gotta check this guys work out. I predict that he is going to soar. Do not be surprised if one day you see his work at Hot Topics one day.

I also had the pleasure of speaking to Mira Furlan. I had a couple of questions for her in regards to her role in lost. Unfortunately she wasn't able to provide any answers.
A couple of other points of interest on this day was going up to the Zoom Suit booth. They gave out a set of 5 promo cards with the Mega Con Stamp. I also had the pleasure of picking up a fine litho which I got autographed by Bob layton as well as John Toledo (creator of Zoom Suit as well as writer and artist).
One more stop was to the Top Shelf Comix booth where I had the pleasure of meeting Andy Runton creator of Owly. Great guy in person which defiantly reflects in his art. Stay Tuned for a review on Owly: Just A Little Blue. I also had picked up James Kochalka's Peanut Butter & Jeremy's Best Book Ever. Stay tuned as well for a full review on this book.
The last stop for me on the first day was The Students of the Unusual Booth. These guys have got to be the coolest guys at the con. Having the chance to speak to them. They told me about there Film Festival which unfortunately I was not able to attend. These guys I can honestly say have the drive and the passion for the industry. Which is a good thing in my book. Stay tuned next as I do a full write up on there first six issues.
After a long day of shopping and speaking to all the fabulous creators out there it was time for me to go back to the hotel have dinner and goto sleep.
Day two. I spent most of the time checking out the panels. After all what's a convention with out panels?
My first panel was one done by the Emerald Rose. They are a Celtic folk rock band.
Emerald Rose. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a CD from them. However that is a easy to fix problem. There website features a link to the shop that sells there music. Believe me the music was so good people where dancing in the aisles. When they did there rendition of the opening song for the hit TV show Firefly. The entire room was singing along.

The next panel I went to was actually a surprise to me. This panel was held by Bob Adelman. The panel was a talk on Mr. Adelman's new book which was published by Dark Horse entitled Will Eisner A Spirited Life. Discussing the life and times of Will Eisner. He did such a great job that I had to go and pick up a copy of the book. A review is coming up.

Now, if you goto Mega con. A panel you must attend is the Arne Starr panel. Arne severs up movie trailers of upcoming movies as well as some tiny insider info. His popularity at Mega con is so huge that both panels I attended were standing room only.

The one panel I attended and immediately left was the Marvel panel. Hoping to get a brief glimpse at to what's to come and maybe some insider news was thrown away since all that was done was a glimpse of covers while the host just mentioned how "cool" things were.

Day 3. The sad day. This was the last day of the con. Not much was done here. I had some words with the fine folks at playmate toys which did a demo of the new game battle dice. I'll be doing a full review Sunday on the game. But simply put I like it the rules are simple and the game is quick.

After the playmates booth, I did a quick walk around met with the creator of the hit comic book "The Gift" by Image comics. Raven Gregory who is one of the coolest people to sit down and talk to. Signed the last four issues and the second trade of "The Gift" and after I yelled at him for putting it on a year hiatus we laughed and parted way. Review as well will be coming soon.

I then ran into Brian Pulido got a copy of his newest movie "There is Something out there" which deals with a killer lawn gnome.

I then looked at my watch and ran over to room 221d to enjoy the closing festivities of the hit Japan rock group D'espairsRay. Man talk about a closer. There music was great not a single person standing still. So in loved with there music I was that I bought there CD and t-shirt.

After the concert. We gathered up and sadly drove home.

Inclosing. This was the best Mega Con I have been to since I starting going. I can honestly tell you. That I can not wait for next year. I already have my hotel booked. I hope to see you there.
