A Frightful Return and a Zombie Prison Break in Ultimate Fantastic Four #30

After time-traveling, visiting twisted parallel universes, and unearthing an ancient terror, Mark Millar and Greg Land are ready to unleash something truly “frightful” on the Ultimate Fantastic Four: the return of Dr. Doom.

Ultimate Fantastic Four #30 kicks off “Frightful” which sees not only the return of Doom, but the introduction of the Ultimate Frightful Four as well. And if the deck wasn’t stacked enough against the FF, the zombies held captive in the Baxter Building since the “Crossover” storyline make their escape.

There will be a variant cover for Ultimate Fantastic Four #30 featuring a zombie rendition of the original Fantastic Four #1 by Arthur Suydam, the man behind the uber-popular covers and variant covers of the Marvel Zombies series. Plus, there will a sketch variant of Greg Land’s stunning cover featuring the zombie FF and Doom.

Millar and Land’s year-long run has all been building towards this 3-issue arc. And you better bet this super-star creative team is going to put the FF through the wringer one last time before they’re done.

Don’t miss out on the beginning of the stunning finale to Millar and Land’s heralded run in Ultimate Fantastic Four #30 as the Ultimate FF face the biggest challenge yet in their young careers.

Civil War Drives New Customers Into Stores In a Frenzy Filled First Day

Civil War #1 was released yesterday and the ecstatic reaction from retailers and fans has been unprecedented. Marvel wants to thank all the the industry for making the launch of this event such a success.

Most important to note is that multiple retailers were reporting seeing hordes of new customers enter the comic shop yesterday to pick up Civil War #1 thanks to all the mainstream media attention the series has received from NPR, ABC, the New York Times, and many others. And don't forget, Saturday May 6th should be the biggest comics shopping day of the year with Free Comic Book Day; the perfect opportunity to get even more readers involved in the frenzy.
Now on to some retailer reactions:

“Today was one of the most exciting new comic days in my 20 plus years of retailing. So many new faces as well as regulars not wanting to miss out on possibly the biggest happening in the history of Marvel Comics.... No change that, the biggest happening in the history of comics period! - Mike Malve of Atomic Comics, Phoenix, AZ.

"Wow! The initial response to Civil War projects to be our best selling comic... ever! Good thing we ordered extras." - Rick Verbanas of Comic Book, Etc! and Comicbooketc.com, Woodstock, GA.

“Civil War #1 is an unqualified success! Every single person coming in is picking up a copy, and those who have read it have absolutely loved it. It has also gotten a great deal of press attention that has sent new people into the stores. What a great way to kick off the summer!” - Tim Stoltzfus More Fun Comics and Games, Lancaster, TX.

“We've seen our regular customers, people who heard about it on NPR, and the folks who just want to see Speedball get blown up.” - Andrew Neal of Chapel Hill Comics, Chapel Hill, NC.

“All of the positive press Marvel worked for with Civil War has paid off with a good number of new and returning customers who have come in because of the NPR piece and a front-page feature in one of the local daily papers. Each of our stores set up "registration centers" and let customers fill out their own Superhuman Registration Forms for a contest we're running, and we're all having a great time!” - Chris Powell of Lone Star Comics, Alington, TX.

“The interest in Civil War is actually increasing by the hour. It’s really getting to people outside of regular comics readers.” Dan Wallace of Impulse Creations, impulsecreations.com.

"A gripping and compelling socio-political thriller, bringing a new and refreshing light to Marvel icons that has not been seen before in comics. Mark Millar and Steve McNiven are firing at all cylinders, and comics are sure to change for the better." - Juan Murcia of Coliseum of Comics, Orlando, FL.
“Just when I think that sales have peaked, something like Civil War comes along and raises the bar again. Great customer anticipation to Civil War promotion had me ordering at one of our highest levels ever for a Marvel book, making it my highest ordered Marvel issue ever.” - Robert Scott of Comickaze Comic Books, San Diego, CA.

“The phone is ringing off the hook from customers who want to make sure we haven't sold out yet. Customers are taking this one out of the bag and reading it as they walk down the street. As people enter the store the first thing they ask is, "Where's Civil War?" - Carr D’Angelo of Earth-2 Comics, Sherman Oaks, CA.

“The art is fantastic and the story is great. But what really stands out is the incredible production quality. Every copy we received was in beautiful condition. If there was an industry reward for best production of a comic book, Civil War #1 would win hands down!” - Mike Milewski of M and M Comic Service, mmcomics.com

“Civil War delivers a knock out! Customers are excited that Marvel is tying in real current events into their story arc and people are already lining up taking sides.” - Drew Lujan of Wanted Comix, wantedcomix.com

“In a week of high profile comics, Civil War #1 is the clear winner. The social and political impact of this story reaches far beyond the confines of the friendly neighborhood comic store bringing in future and former comic fans alike.” Brad Bankston of Austin Books and Comics, Austin, TX.

And customers at Coliseum of Comics were overheard to have been saying, “I bought 2 copies of Civil War because I met [Marvel’s Vice President of Sales] David Gabriel here last week."

Oh, and one final quote from Brian Michael Bendis about his trip to his local comic store yesterday aleady being SOLD OUT: “I do not have one, it is gone.”
Retailers be advised that you can reorder copies of Civil War #1 with confidence.

Four No More: FF Must Face a Death in the Family

The Invisible Woman lies dead. Mr. Fantastic cradles the lifeless body of his wife, while the Thing rages at her killer. In Fantastic Four: A Death in the Family Johnny Storm decides to do whatever it takes to see Sue alive again - no matter the consequences.

Fantastic Four: A Death in the Family is an in-continuity story and shows why the Fantastic Four are the First Family of Comics. But after this oversized special, no one may look at the Human Torch the same way again.

As an added bonus to the all-new story by Karl Kesel and Lee Weeks, this 64-Page one-shot also contains a bonus story from Fantastic Four #245, where the Invisible Woman fights alone for the life of her son.

Pick up Fantastic Four: A Death in the Family for a reminder of just why the Fantastic Four are the best family as well as the greatest super hero team in comics.

Fantastic Four #537 Sells Out, Rushed Back to Press

Due to the overwhelming reaction by retailers and fans, Marvel is rushing back to press on Fantastic Four #537. Thanks to the return of Doctor Doom, the reappearance of Thor’s hammer, and the FF on the brink of Civil War, Fantastic Four #537 sold out lightning quick from Diamond.
Similar to Amazing Spider-Man #529 Second printing, Marvel will NOT be creating a new cover, but instead offering the same cover art (with the second printing blurb) to those retailers caught by surprise at the quick sell through in their stores.
As the anticipation for Civil War builds, so has the demand for the Road to Civil War books, which Fantastic Four #537 was among. With the tremendous response to the books leading up to the event, Civil War has become one of the most eagerly anticipated series ever.
Pick up Fantastic Four #537 in any printing because this tension-filled issue just may be the last time you see the Fantastic Four as you know it. There is, of course, a Civil War on the horizon.
Fans be advised that first prints of this hot issue may still be available at local comic shops.

FANS GET CHANCE TO STAR IN COMIC BOOK

Appear in Zoom Suit #3 with All Proceeds Helping Animals in Need
Comic fans have lees than 24 hours to carve their name into comic book history. In return for a $100 donation that will be sent to the Florida Humane Society, five fans will become background characters in Zoom Suit #3.

The last names of five fans will be spoken by a play-by-play announcer at a football game in the script. Originally the players were named after the artists on the project – Layton, Tucci, Sears, Starlin and Patton. However, Team Zoom thought it would be a fun idea to give fans the chance to be immortalized in the comic as well as help animals in need.

“I’m always looking for a way to support no kill animal shelters,” said Zoom Suit creator John Taddeo. “It’s a fun opportunity as well as a great cause. Please check out the auction.”

The five fans that make the $100 donation will also receive a complete set of Zoom Suit #2 comics including cover “A” by Bart Sears, cover “B” by Keron Grant and both retailer incentive covers. The Armored Legend Edition features a cover by Bob Layton, while the Suspended Animation Edition features artwork directly from the animated short film. All four covers feature the latest breakthroughs in “Glow in the Dark” printing technology.

One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit animal charities. Taddeo is personally paying the eBay auction fees, PayPal fees, supplying the comics and paying for the shipping.

“Considering the prices we’ve seen on eBay for the first set of Armored Legends books, I think we should be able to raise the $500 for the shelter,” said Taddeo. “Watching the #1 retailer incentive issues sell between $50 and $300 a set is just amazing. After seeing that, I came up with the idea of using some of our copies to help the shelters.”

Runaways and X-Men Meet For the First Time on Free Comic Book Day

Free Comic Book Day is this Saturday May 6 and Marvel is offering X-Men/Runaways, featuring an all-new 11 page story showcasing the X-Men’s first run-in with the left-coast teen heroes the Runaways.
Written by Runaways scribe Brian K. Vaughan with art by Scottie Young (New Warriors), the all-new story entitled “We Don’t Need No Education” finds the former teen superheroes the X-Men looking to drop a little knowledge on the Runaways. But it just might be the rebellious Runaways who do some teaching of their own.
"I’m really excited about showcasing some of the Marvel Universe's coolest characters, classic and contemporary, in a brand new story that will be completely accessible to all Free Comic Book Day readers, young and old,” says Vaughan.
Also included in this Free Comic Book Day Special is Ultimate Spider-Man Saga, a look at the highlights of the 90-plus issue history of Ultimate Spider-Man. And if that wasn’t enough, there is also a preview of Marvel Adventures: The Avengers and a Franklin Richards short story because, well, everybody loves Franklin.
Head to your local comic book shop this Saturday and pick up X-Men/Runaways because as Brian K. Vaughan said, “If nothing else, we guarantee you'll get your money's worth!"

Civil War, Civil Suit in She-Hulk #8

After the disastrous events that kick off Civil War #1, a public outcry to have super heroes registered forces She-Hulk to choose a side as Marvel’s top superhuman lawyer. But what side will she choose when she feels one way as She-Hulk and another as Jennifer Walters?
This Civil War tie-in spins right out of the first issue of the mega-event as Jennifer Walters must use her skills as a lawyer, not her strength, to try to stem the tide of the burgeoning Civil War.
Pick up She-Hulk #8 to see what Jennifer Walters’s decision is; plus, you do not want to miss whose court case she handles next (especially if you’re a fan of the New Warriors).
