Quicksilver Falls Further in Son of M #1

All he wanted was to make the world a perfect place for mutantkind, but now Quicksilver finds he has lost it all in Son of M #1. Once the fastest man on Earth, Quicksilver now finds himself powerless in the aftermath of the House of M. How far is he willing to go to get his powers back? Who will he betray next? And what will the cost be for this betrayal? The answers will shock you and change the face of the Marvel Universe forever.

As if this wasn’t enough, one of the victims of Quicksilver’s actions in House of M comes seeking answers, and retribution. Still reeling from the memories of the life he wishes he could forget, Spider-Man shows up to confront a very human Pietro for the horror that was visited upon Peter Parker in the House of M. One thing is for sure: it will get ugly.

Don’t miss this Decimation tie-in, which is guaranteed to have long-lasting ramifications for the entire Marvel Universe and a new status quo for Quicksilver himself.

5 Up and 5 Down: Marvel Knights Spider-Man #20 Sells Out, Gets Scarlet Spider Variant

At the start of the month I reported on the selling out of Amazing Spider-man 525. Looks like it happened again with Marvel Knights Spider-Man #20

In only one day, Marvel Knights Spider-Man #20 has sold out at Diamond despite a significant overprinting. In response, Marvel is going back to press immediately on this issue with a new second printing variant cover by Mike Wieringo featuring the Scarlet Spider.

Critics have continued to praise Spider-Man: The Other. Koben Kelly of Newsarama.com says, “In all honesty, this was the most fun I've had with a Spidey book in years.”

In reference to the previous sellout of Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #2, ComicFanatic.com says, “Not hard to see why this one sold out so quickly. Why? Because it’s that good.”

The Other continues to be a huge hit with retailers and fans as Marvel Knights Spider-Man #20, part 5 of the Spider-Man event, is also the fifth consecutive sellout.

The response to these second printing variant covers has been tremendous and it wouldn’t be possible without the unqualified success the fans have made Spider-Man: The Other thus far.

Provided is a sketch by Mike Wieringo of the Scarlet Spider variant, which will follow the same theme of the four Spider-Man: The Other second printing variants that preceded it.

Be sure to pick up Reginald Hudlin’s conclusion to act two of Spider-Man: The Other in Amazing Spider-Man #526, where a weakened Spider-Man has the fight of his life against Morlun. And then pick up next month’s act three written by J.Michael Straczynski as Spider-Man finds himself on the precipice of death.

Issues of Spider-Man: The Other are flying off shelves so make sure you secure your copies and don’t miss out on this great Spider-Man epic.

What If: Wolverine Sees Logan Take on the Chicago Mob

Continuing December’s What If month, What If: Wolverine shows us a universe where Logan leaves the Canadian Wilderness, not to become an X-Man or a member of Alpha Flight, but to take on the mob of the Windy City, Chicago.
Logan has sought solace in the trappings of a rowdy river town in the Canadian wilderness, but a tragedy forces him to seek revenge in Chicago. Will this crusade stop him from becoming Wolverine or does he have a greater destiny ahead of him?

All these questions and more are answered in this tale of vengeance by the creative team of Ten Terrific writer Daniel Way and penciler Jon Proctor.
Traditionally, each What If? tale took place in its own universe. But for the first time, this year’s 6 What If? one-shots will all take place in the same universe: the newly introduced Earth 717.

Be sure to collect all of this year’s What If stories featuring Captain America, The Fantastic Four, Thor, Daredevil, and the Sub-Mariner.

New Excalibur Take on the Old X-Men in New Excalibur #2

A series of strange coincidences, including the near-death of Dazzler, has brought a new team of Excalibur together. But will they mesh as a unit in enough time to take down the original five X-Men with murder on their mind in the pages of New Excalibur #2?

Both critics and fans have floored by the incredible first issue of New Excalibur.

Hilary Goldstein of IGN.com says, “This is an excellent read and one of the week's best.”

Comicfanatic.com says, “While not officially a team yet, Claremont’s New Excalibur already has that unique team dynamic that works. I can’t put it into words, but this issue gave me a good feeling. The feeling that told me…this is going to be good!”

Featuring an eclectic line-up of Captain Britain, Nocturne, Dazzler, Pete Wisdom, and Juggernaut, New Excalibur is once again England’s premiere super-hero team. So why are the original X-Men outfitted in leather and trying to kill them?

“The five original X-Men are five of the most powerful mutants who ever lived,” says editor Mike Marts. “Who are these five leather-clad copies strutting around England? And is that Professor Xavier standing up on the last page of New Excalibur #1? You’re going to have to read and find out. Needless to say, Captain Britain and friends are going to have their hands full.”

After the shocking first issue where the original X-Men nearly succeeded in killing Dazzler, the New Excalibur are going to have to learn to trust each other or these murderous Children of the Atom are going to rip them to shreds.
Don’t miss New Excalibur #2 as Decimation continues to spread throughout the X-Universe.

Pak Begins Planet Hulk in Incredible Hulk #92

“Planet Hulk,” the biggest Hulk event in the Jade Giant’s history, is set to begin in Incredible Hulk #92 and Greg Pak, writer of the acclaimed Phoenix: Endsong and member of Marvel’s Ten Terrific, is taking the Hulk there. Along with artist Carlo Pagulayan, Pak is set to bring the Hulk on the most incredible ride of his life leading up to the milestone issue Incredible Hulk #100.

“Most of the great Marvel characters are misfits—that's the classic Marvel twist which makes these heroes so compellingly human,” says Ten Terrific writer Greg Pak. “But the Hulk may be the greatest misfit of all—he has the heart of a hero, but in the eyes of puny humans, his incredible anger and power make him the planet's most terrifying monster.”

“Planet Hulk” will find the Hulk completely out of his element, stranded on a distant world with inhabitants just as powerful as he is. So is it possible for the Hulk to survive this harsh planet? And possibly even thrive there?
"Planet Hulk’ thrusts the Hulk into a savage world in which a corrupt empire uses the spectacle of bloody gladiatorial combat to distract its citizens, discipline its slaves, and dispose of its enemies,” says Pak. “In a world in which might makes right and he who wins in the arena has the chance to influence thousands, what path will the Hulk take? Will the monster become a hero? Or will he become the worst tyrant the universe has ever seen?”
”I'm hugely excited about the story,” reveals Pak. “It combines a fun science fiction premise with a great character arc. And we've got monsters and robots, swords and spaceships, a corrupt emperor and a fierce woman warrior, bug people, Shadow Walkers, and the Hulk at his angriest and most vulnerable and most lethal on the precipice of huge decisions and new directions. And to top it off, Carlo Pagulayan is penciling. He's a superstar in the making and his Hulk is going to blow people's minds.”

A whole new world means a whole new supporting cast for the Hulk, including new enemies, new powerful alien races, and possibly even a new love interest.

“I think this story is going to become one of the most definitive Hulk arcs in years,” says editor Mark Paniccia. “We’re looking into the heart of the monster side of Bruce Banner. What will we find? You’re going to be shocked…and moved. And we promise there’s going to be lots of action in this series. It’s going to make your head spin!”

Pak and Pagulayan are sure to bring new meaning to the the words Hulk Smash as Planet Hulk sees Bruce Banner’s alter ego fighting to survive on a hostile alien world. But just how will this effect the Hulk for years to come? Find out in Incredible Hulk #92 as the epic “Planet Hulk” begins.

AWARD-WINNING ANIMATED FILM TO MAKE COMIC BOOK DEBUT

With over 200,000 comics and animation fans having already viewed the award-winning animated film Zoom Suit, and an anticipated 100,000 more still to come, a built in audience is expected for the debut of the comic book mini-series in April 2006. The first issue of the four issue mini-series, written by creator and former Marvel Entertainment Brand Manager, John Taddeo, with art by Billy Dallas Patton (Astonishing X-Men) and covers by Patton, Billy Tucci and Bob Layton, will appear in the February issue of Previews under publisher listing Superverse.

In issue #1, an alien craft crash lands in Roswell, New Mexico, and the reports are heard around the world. Fast forward 60 years. The suit is stolen by turncoat NSA Agent Simon Bane. In a theft attempt reminiscent of DB Cooper, Simon leaps from an Army chopper at 8,000 feet and begins to don the Zoom Suit. However, he has made a deadly error: Aliens are small! The suit doesn’t fit! Simon and the suit fall helplessly to earth at terminal velocity. On Earth, thirteen year old Myles Mason is bummed about not being able to afford a Halloween costume, when suddenly, from the sky, alien armor crashes to Earth just a few feet behind him.

Zoom Suit is aimed at an 8 to 80 audience and looks to bring some fun back to comics. The first issue features a $2.95 cover price and contains 36 pages of story and art plus two full letters pages and ads parodying “old skool” ads seen in Marvel and DC comics for X-Ray specs, giant monsters, etc. The issue also contains many pop culture references and inside jokes as well as a secret code hidden throughout that will take fans on a mission outside the book, across the internet and into the middle of an alien conspiracy. Those that can decipher the code and solve the mystery will receive prizes such as DVDs and limited edition comics and trading cards.

“As a 30 year fan of comics, I can remember the days when comics didn’t take themselves so seriously,” said Taddeo. “That’s what we’re hoping to achieve with Zoom Suit. Plenty of superhero action, but still a fun read, sprinkled with loads of pop culture and inside jokes.”

The Zoom Suit mini-series will pay homage to some of the greatest armored heroes in comics’ history by featuring variant covers by some of the greatest artists on those heroes. Look for covers by Gene Colan, Bob Layton, Jim Starlin and Bart Sears.

In order to assure a timely, monthly schedule, all four issues of the series will be completed before the first issue ships in April. Because of this, retailers will be sent the special retailer only Team Zoom Suit Edition #1 featuring a Billy Tucci cover in February with their Previews order packs. If you’d like your retailer to share an early look at Zoom Suit with you, be sure to put in your request now.

The award-winning animated short Zoom Suit, created by John Taddeo, can be seen online at www.superverse.com.

1000 Demons to destroy the world. One hero who couldn't care less.

ANNOUNCING PETER BERGTING'S "THE PORTENT"
From the mind of acclaimed Swedish illustrator Peter Bergting comes THE PORTENT, a sweeping fantasy epic launching in February from Image Comics.
THE PORTENT is the story of Milo, a man who has absolutely no interest in the world or other people. Through forces he cannot control, he sets out to become a hero but for all the wrong reasons. He ends up destroying the world and then heads to find the ancient demon who set everything in motion in an attempt to try to set things right. At the crossroads between this world and the next, Milo finally must take a stand, and in doing so, learn just what it takes to be a hero.

"Milo is not like the other 'anti-heroes,' he isn't rotten to the core," explains Bergting. "Having lost everything once, he's now been given the chance to live all over again. Milo decides that no one or nothing will come between him and the rest of his life. He could have turned this opportunity into something good but decides to be the most egotistical bastard you could dig up. And when he finally decides to become a hero, he does so out of lust and self indulgence, leaving him and the world on a path that leads directly to hell. Eventually, he'll come to terms with who he is and what he must do, but by then it is already too late. That leads up to the finale which will be a pig payoff emotionally as well as story and character wise."
"The story is set against a backdrop of a romanticized norse country with mist-filled valleys and towering mountains. Evil spirits, the restless souls of the undead (albeit in physical form) plague the countryside and through an unfortunate incident they have come upon the means to resurrect an ancient automaton, the giant Mökkurkalve. It is now on it’s way to destroy the one thing that gave birth to mankind."
THE PORTENT has had a long road in making its way to the printed page.
"I began work for real on the Portent in 2001," says Bergting. "I was still working on other comics for a Swedish publisher as well as my own comic strip (also called the Portent, unfortunately) that runs in Dungeon Magazine. THE PORTENT has been in production for well over 10 years, going from a novel to a movie script and back to comic book form where it first started. My original idea was to sort of bring a visual story to all the great rock ‘n’ roll classics that I loved, like a rock opera but on paper. In the beginning, it was pretty shallow and more a roller coaster of visuals and mayhem, but the more I wrote, the more I realized that I wanted to create something deeper, more meaningful with the story. And that’s when everything sort of clicked into place. Ultimately it’s a story about redemption but it goes further than that."
Bergting himself has been an illustrator for over 16 years, working on a wide variety of projects for both European and American companies, with his experience and influences lending a completely fresh feel to THE PORTENT.
"The story, and the way it’s told, is a bit different from most comics. It’s a sweeping story and I have quite few surprises planned. I believe it doesn’t look or read quite like any other comic, it's certainly more verbal and brainy, I see it more like an opera played out on the printed page. It has all the action of an action film and all the melodrama and tragedy of a great stageplay as well. Some would describe it as Shakespeare with Kung Fu I guess. I’m very into Tsui Hark and you can certainly pick up on a few things that have inspired me from his films. I would best call it melancholic but there is a lot of humor in there as well."
THE PORTENT will be available for preordering from the December PREVIEWS and the first issue of this full-color series is set to hit stores in February 2006.

Omega Will Be Unknown No Longer With Classic TPB, Upcoming Mini-Series

Before you get blown away by Jonathan Lethem’s new Omega: The Unknown series due out next year, check out Omega: The Unknown Classic TPB collecting the hero’s short-lived career.

“These early Omega: The Unknown stories by Steve Gerber, Mary Skrenes and Jim Mooney formed an emotional touchstone for a young Jonathan Lethem, one that stayed with him his entire life,” says Tom Brevoort, editor of the upcoming Omega: The Unknown series. ”Now, he’s going to be coming full circle, discharging that inspirational debt by presenting his own interpretation of this obscure Marvel character.”

Omega’s beginning is filled with demons, depowerment, and drama and it just may consume the Defenders.

In his short time as a hero, Omega: The Unknown battled obscure and infamous villains, with one super-villain even losing his own life in a battle with the hero. And for once, this villain has stayed dead. You’ll even witness the incredible origin of this short-lived superstar.

There’s even a Spider-Man guest appearance, but it’s not quite how you would expect it to be.

Beat the crowd and check out the beginning of Omega in Omega: The Unknown Classic TPB featuring issues 1-10 of his series and his two appearances in Defenders 76 and 77 before his high-profile mini-series later in 2006.

It’s Kirkman-Mania at Marvel with Zombies and the League of Losers

Ten Terrific writer Robert Kirkman is bringing you two things that everyone can get behind in Marvel Team-Up #15 and Marvel Zombies #1: lovable losers and flesh-consuming killer zombies.

Marvel Zombies #1 is a super-powered horror fest featuring zombified versions of Marvel’s greatest heroes. Few things are cooler than zombies and super-heroes so when you mix them together, its almost too much for one comic to contain.

“From the pages of best-selling Ultimate Fantastic Four by Mark Millar and Greg Land: writer Robert Kirkman and penciler Sean Philips unite to continue our epic exploration of an alternate Earth devastated by a plague that has turned all the super heroes into flesh-eating Walking Dead! Is this a world without hope? The answer is revealed in our shocking five part series: Marvel Zombies. Don’t miss it!”

When the super-powered zombies run out of humans to eat , their search for sustenance will become desperate. And when the Silver Surfer of that universe arrives on Earth, will even the Power Cosmic be enough to stave off a horde of insane, undead super-heroes?

After chowing down on some zombie action, cuddle up with some of the meekest and lamest heroes the Marvel Universe has ever offered in Marvel Team-Up #15. Lovingly proclaimed the League of Losers, a group of some of Marvel’s lower tier heroes have to step up to the plate when all the big-hitters like Iron Man and Wolverine turn up missing.

Featuring old and forgotten heroes like Sleepwalker and Terror, Inc. as well as some of Marvel’s next vanguard like Gravity and X-23, the League of Losers are the newest team of heroes to try to save the world. Also featuring Darkhawk, Dagger, Speedball, and Arana, this team of heroes may end up saving the day, but they sure aren’t going to look good doing it.

Ten Terrific writer Robert Kirkman is staking his claim as one of Marvel’s next big creators so don’t miss out on the undead action in Marvel Zombies #1 and the lovable losers in Marvel Team-Up #15.

COMIC BOOK FILM, ZOOM SUIT, WINS BERKELEY VIDEO & FILM FESTIVAL

Before the news post I just want to give a big congratulations to Superverse. This film is a fun wild short. I cant wait to read the comic.

Marvel Alumni Wins Grand Festival Award in Major Film Competition
Zoom Suit, the animated short film written and directed by former Marvel Entertainment Brand Manager, John Taddeo, has won the Grand Festival Award at this year’s Berkeley Video & Film Festival. The Berkeley Video & Film Festival is the largest festival of its kind in California and Zoom Suit was one of 40 animated films viewed and judged.
“Zoom Suit screened at the 13th Annual Berkeley Video & Film Festival 2005 to a national highly receptive film festival audience in north Berkeley at the Oaks Theatreon Sunday, October 30th, 2005,” said Mel Vapour, Director, Berkeley Video & Film Festival 2005. “Zoom Suit, the brainchild of independent animator, writer, and director John Taddeo, is a visual treat that doesn’t disappoint the most steadfast animation-phile. Classically drawn with some nifty motion effects that enhances this storyline of a young man finding an alien battle suit, and instantly transforms into a superhero with amazing powers of flight and force enthralled the BV&FF audience. Zoom Suit will soon become an indie animation classic and is deserving of that honor.”
This win, in a California town with an active and productive independent film community that produces a tremendous amount of film criticism, is further proof of the acceptance of comics by Hollywood decision makers. Zoom Suit has already received serious attention to be translated into a live action, full length feature film.
“As a 30 year fan of comics, it’s great news that Hollywood has finally found a respect for stories that originate from comics,” said Taddeo. “The success of the Marvel superhero films have opened up the doors and allowed studios to take a look at concepts like Zoom Suit. We’re overwhelmed by the interest in our characters these awards have generated and excited to get our hands on all the cool Zoom Suit merchandise in the pipeline. Fifty film festivals in eight months can really put you on the radar.”

The award-winning animated short Zoom Suit, created by John Taddeo, can be seen online at www.superverse.com. The Zoom Suit comic book will be solicited in the February edition of Previews for items shipping in April 2006.

YELLOW BRICK ROAD LEADS ALIAS TO NICKELODEON

Alias Comics’ series, OZF5: GALE FORCE, gained notable mention in the November issue of Nickelodeon magazine!

This month’s recent issue of Nickelodeon features a special story on THE WIZARD OF OZ, and all of its many incarnations. Among them you’ll find Alias’ series, OZF5: GALE FORCE – an all-new, all-ages story of Oz, as Dorothy Gale returns to Oz, armed with a water gun, to join her friends, a master of Wing Chun Kung Fu Scarecrow, a kilt-wearing Celtic-Warrior King of the Beasts Lion, and an axe wielding Tin Man War Machine who is composed of various automobile parts that have been dropped into Oz by whirlwinds!

With the ferocity of an F5 tornado, Dorothy and crew face Rocket-powered Flying Monkeys, marauding Winkie War Machines, and the West Witch's murderous crows and wicked wolves as they attempt to free the strange Land of Oz from the Witch's wicked reign.

“I am thrilled to see OZF5 mentioned in Nickelodeon Magazine. It gives the book much wider exposure to a portion of the audience that it is tailor made for,” said writer/creator, Ramon Madrigal. “To be mentioned along such well-known representations as the Broadway musical in a magazine of Nickelodeon's caliber is a comic book creator's dream. Kids should be able to enjoy comics as much as adults, and if OZF5 can have as many younger readers who enjoy the book as adult readers then I'll be happy.”

OZF5: GALE FORCE, by Ramon Madrigal and Ryan Ottley (INVINCIBLE), debuted at Alias Comics in August, being met with great reviews.

“Odd but satisfying … it certainly played by its own rules …If you want a fun, not-too-serious Oz read, go for it.” – The Wonderful Blog of Oz.

“I loved this comic so much that I want to give it a 10+ if that was possible and I hope that we will see more books from the team like this.” – The Comics Review.
